മുൻ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയും കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് നേതാവുമായിരുന്ന വി. എസ്. അച്യുതാനന്ദൻ്റെ മരണത്തിൽ അനുശോചിക്കുന്നു. ജനകീയ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളിൽ സജീവമായി ഇടപെട്ട്, പാർട്ടിക്കപ്പുറം ജനഹൃദയങ്ങളിൽ ഇടം നേടിയ നേതാവായിരുന്നു വി.എസ്.
വി.എസ്. അച്യുതാനന്ദൻ്റെ മരണത്തോടെ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൻ്റെ ഒരു യുഗത്തിനാണ് അവസാനമാകുന്നത്. എന്നും ജനങ്ങൾക്കൊപ്പം നിന്ന നേതാവായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. ജനകീയ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളിൽ മുഖം നോക്കാതെ ഇടപെട്ട അദ്ദേഹം ഭൂമാഫിയകൾക്കെതിരെയടക്കം സ്വീകരിച്ച നിലപാടുകൾ എക്കാലത്തും ഓ‍ർമ്മിക്കപ്പെടും. കേരളത്തിൽ മതതീവ്രവാദ സംഘടനകൾ പിടിമുറുക്കുന്നുവെന്ന സത്യം തുറന്നുപറയാൻ ധൈര്യം കാണിച്ച ആദ്യ നേതാവ് കൂടിയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.
ചികിത്സയിൽ തുടരവെ, കഴിഞ്ഞ ആഴ്ച തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ ആശുപത്രിയിലെത്തി മകൻ അരുൺകുമാറിനെ കണ്ട് വി.എസിന്റെ ആരോഗ്യ വിവരങ്ങൾ തിരക്കിയിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ആത്മാവിന് നിത്യശാന്തി നേരുന്നു.

With his demise, an era in India’s Communist movement comes to a close. He was among the rare few in his ideological fold who remained approachable to the common man. The people of Kerala will never forget his bold stance against the land mafia and the entrenched interests they represented. At a time when many chose silence, he stood out as one of the few CMs who dared to speak openly about the growing grip of organized religious fundamentalist terror networks in Kerala, a stand that remains strikingly relevant today.
Last week, while he was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, I had visited his son, Arun Kumar, to inquire about his condition. I share in the grief of his family and pray for his soul to attain eternal peace.
